Ready for some serious offshore action? Drop Zone Fishing's extended trip out of Carrabelle is the real deal. We're talking up to 60 miles into the Gulf, where the big boys play. This full-day excursion is perfect for anglers looking to push their limits and land some trophy fish. With room for 6 on our decked-out 31' Bluewater, you'll have plenty of elbow room to reel in the monsters lurking in the deep.
We'll meet you bright and early at 7 AM at Timber Island Boat Ramp. Once everyone's aboard, we'll fire up those twin 300 HP Suzuki engines and point the bow towards some of the most productive fishing grounds in the Gulf. This isn't your average inshore trip – we're heading to where the seafloor drops off and the real giants hang out. You'll be using heavy-duty tackle to bottom fish and jig for a variety of species that'll make your arms ache (in the best way possible). Our experienced crew will be right there with you, offering tips and making sure you're on the fish all day long.
When you're fishing this far out, you need the right equipment. We've got you covered with top-notch rods, reels, and terminal tackle designed to handle the bruisers we'll be targeting. We'll be using a mix of live bait and artificial lures, depending on what's biting. Expect to do some serious cranking as we drop lines in depths ranging from 100 to 300 feet. You might find yourself vertical jigging one minute and dropping live bait the next – variety is the name of the game out here. And don't worry about licenses or bringing your own gear; we've got all that sorted for you.
Red Snapper: These crimson beauties are the crown jewels of Gulf fishing. Known for their fierce fights and delicious flavor, Red Snapper can grow up to 40 pounds. They love structure and tend to hang around reefs and wrecks. The best time to target them is during the federally managed season, which typically runs in the summer months. When you hook one, be ready for a battle – they'll try to dive back to their rocky homes, so keep that rod tip up!
Red Grouper: These bottom-dwelling brutes are a favorite among offshore anglers. With their distinctive reddish-brown color and powerful builds, Red Grouper can tip the scales at over 50 pounds. They're ambush predators, so we'll be dropping baits right into their lairs. The fight with a big grouper is all about the initial run – if you can turn their head and get them moving up, you're in business. These guys are available year-round, but the cooler months often see the biggest specimens.
Gag Grouper: Cousins to the Red Grouper, Gags are known for their incredible strength and tasty white meat. They can grow even larger than Reds, with some monsters pushing 80 pounds. Gags love to hang around rocky bottoms and ledges, making them a perfect target for our deep-water drops. The season for these guys is more limited, usually opening in the summer and fall. When you hook a big Gag, hold on tight – they're known for making powerful runs back to the bottom.
Greater Amberjack: If you're looking for a true test of strength, the "reef donkey" is your fish. Amberjack are notorious for their stamina and bull-dogged determination. These fish can grow over 100 pounds and will give you the fight of your life. We typically find them around deep-water structures and wrecks. The best time to target AJs is usually in the spring and fall. Be prepared for a workout – these fish have been known to leave even experienced anglers gasping for air.
There's something special about fishing this far offshore. It's not just about the size of the fish – although that's certainly part of it. Gag Grouper are brutes - they can top 50 pounds and will try to drag you into their rocky lairs. Look for them around ledges, reefs, and wrecks in 60-250 feet. They prefer cooler water, so winter and early spring are prime seasons. Gags are ambush predators, so positioning your bait near structure is crucial. They're known for their powerful initial run and dogged fight. The meat is excellent - sweet and flaky. Live bait like pinfish or squid is hard to beat, but they'll hit artificials too. Here's a local secret: when you hook one, reel fast and pull hard to get them away from the bottom. If they make it back to structure, you'll likely lose them. Be ready for a battle - gags don't give up easily.

Greater Amberjack are bruisers - they can top 100 pounds and put up a legendary fight. You'll find these bluish-grey powerhouses around deep wrecks, reefs, and offshore structures in 60-240 feet of water. They hunt in schools, so when you hook one, get ready for more action. Spring and fall are prime seasons as they move to shallower waters. Anglers love AJs for their sheer strength and stamina - be ready for long, powerful runs. The meat's good eating too, with a rich, firm texture. Live bait like blue runners works well, but big jigs can also trigger strikes. Here's a tip: when you see them on the fish finder, drop your jig and start a fast retrieve. The competitive nature of AJs often leads to aggressive strikes.

Red Grouper are tough fighters that'll give you a real workout. These rusty-red fish usually run 5-10 pounds, but can hit 50 in deeper water. Look for them around rocky bottoms, ledges, and wrecks in 50-300 feet. They're aggressive feeders, so getting a bite isn't too tough if you find their hangouts. Use heavy tackle - these guys love to dive for cover when hooked. Live bait like pinfish or squid works great. Red Grouper are prized for their sweet, shellfish-like taste. The meat is firm and flaky, perfect for grilling or frying up. Best fishing is spring through fall when the water's warmer. One local trick: when you feel that first thump, reel fast and lift your rod tip to pull them away from structure before they can escape.

Red Snapper are a favorite target - beautiful fish that put up a great fight and taste even better. Most run 5-15 pounds, but 20-30 pounders aren't uncommon. You'll find them over hard bottom areas, reefs, and wrecks in 60-300 feet. They're structure-oriented, so precise anchoring or drift fishing is key. Summer's the prime season when they move to shallower breeding grounds. Snapper are known for their initial powerful run, then a steady fight to the surface. The bright red color and excellent white meat make them a prized catch. Live bait like cigar minnows works well, but they'll hit cut bait too. Pro tip: when you feel the bite, reel quickly and set the hook hard - snapper have tough mouths and need a solid hookset.
